The Gray-Haired Knitting Detectives Go on Tour

D.E. Haggerty

An Interview with Jack, the protagonist of Jack Gets His Man

  1. In three sentences, tell us about your story.

My story, which is told in Jack Gets His Man, details the problems I was having at my store, Fabulous, Darling. Someone was stealing from the store and the narrative describes how I as well as my best friend Izzy and our gray-haired knitting friends try to solve the mystery. While this is going on, the old lady detectives decide it’s time to use their matchmaking skills on me since Izzy has recently gotten married.

  1. Are you the hero of your story?

I want to say yes because who doesn’t want to be the hero in their own story? But I have to be honest and say that I wouldn’t have been able to get through the past months without my crew: my best friend Izzy and the gray-haired knitting posse.

  1. It sounds like your story could have some conflict in it. Do you embrace or run from conflict?

Neither really. I don’t go looking for conflict like the gray-haired knitting detectives, but I don’t run in fear from it either. I deal with what I need to deal with, but I don’t go searching for problems.

  1. Since the ladies are trying to find you a partner, it’s fair to ask – what is the quality you most desire in a man?

Besides being hot you mean? Okay, I’ll be serious. At this point in my life I’m going to have to say honesty.

  1. You own a cross-dressing store. Does that mean you’re a cross-dresser?

Of course not! I’m not a woman either but we sell clothes for big and beautiful women.

  1. Name five items in your briefcase or pockets.

I don’t carry a briefcase because seriously I’ve yet to find one that is fashionable and I can’t put anything in my pockets because that would just destroy the look of my skinny jeans. When I need to take stuff with me, I carry a man-purse. It only has the necessary items: keys, wallet, comb, moisturizer and of course condoms.

  1. Do you find your true love in your story?

I’m not telling. I will say that I do my darnedest to find my true love and okay yeah maybe I work a bit hard at getting some loving as well. What can I say? I’m a man!

  1. What is your most closely guarded secret?

If I told you, it wouldn’t be a secret anymore now would it? But I’ll tell you something that most people don’t know about me. Most people know that I don’t have any contact with my family but what no one knows (well except Izzy) is that I really miss them and it hurts that they don’t want to have anything to do with me. I mean I’m absolutely fabulous and I’m a successful businessman. What do I have to do for them to want me?

  1. What’s next for Jack?

I’m going to be concentrating on the store. It’s pretty obvious that I screwed up stepping back and letting a general manager handle the day-to-day operations. After all the chaos (which you’ll learn about if you read my story), I’m re-evaluating how the business is run and with whom I want to run the business.

Author Bio:

I was born and raised in Wisconsin, but think I’m a European. After spending my senior year of high school in Germany, I developed a bad case of wanderlust that is yet to be cured. My flying Dutch husband and I have lived in Ohio, Virginia, the Netherlands, Germany and now Istanbul. We still haven’t decided if we want to settle down somewhere – let alone where. I’m leaning towards somewhere I can learn to surf even though the hubby thinks that’s a less than sound way to decide where to live. Although I’ve been a military policewoman, a commercial lawyer, and a B&B owner, I think with writing I may have finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up. That’s assuming I ever grow up, of course. Between tennis, running, traveling, singing off tune, drinking entirely too many adult beverages, and reading books like they are going out of style, I write articles for a local expat magazine and various websites, review other indie authors’ books, write a blog about whatever comes to mind and am working on my sixth book.
